Database Administrator

Database Administrator will be responsible for the overall performance, integrity and security of a database. Involved in the planning and development of the database, as well as in troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users. Meets with various team members within the IT department and other departments to achieve daily operational requirements, database integrity and security.

Essential Functions:

• Technical Administration (60%): Monitors and maintains databases of the entire organization. Performs triage and troubleshooting in the event of service outages and/or business recovery. Recommends upgrades or performance configuration or enhancements to existing hardware, software and connections. Interacts with end users and other IT staff to ensure the timely achievement of daily operational requirements.
• Technical Design (20%): Designs database architecture, cluster solutions, capacity planning, BCP and DRP. Utilizes best practices to create secure, efficient, high-performing and availability of the database systems. Analyzes capacity and usage trends to identify opportunities for improvement. Works with management and business units to build new database solutions. Write database documentation, including data standard, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary.
• Customer Service (15%): Provides support to end users, clients and other IT staff. Works with other IT staff to ensure that databases are functioning optimally.
• Direction and Leadership (10%): Works with IT BI manager, Software Development Manager, Infrastructure and Information Systems Manager and other Managers across the organization to develop and maintain strategic plans and activities that meet, support and align with PracticeMax goals.
• Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

Preferred Skills/Knowledge:

• Strong understanding of Database architecture and infrastructure, hardware and software
• Strong understanding of installation, setup and configuration of database system in multiple cluster and geographical location 
• Strong understanding of information security concepts and data privacy regulations
• Strong understanding of clustering, setup
• A successful track record building and supporting database systems 
• Understanding of database and network applications and protocols
• Effective communication skills in working with end-users, management, clients and vendors to understand information needs and priorities and then work to meet those needs in a timely and cost-effective manner
• High level of analytical skills and problem-solving ability in order to proactively determine problem areas and coordinate the implementation of effective solutions
• Ability to concentrate for extended periods on highly technical work
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills, and outstanding customer service skills

Qualifications:

• Minimum of five years' experience supporting a variety database system including operating systems, enterprise software, data warehouse, big data, networking, backup/disaster recovery, storage solutions, information security and/or hardware/infrastructure
• Min five years' experience as database administrator in a multi-platform environment
• Advanced industry knowledge of information technology solutions based on a combination of college education, professional certifications and industry experience.
