Home Health- Coding Specialist
The Coding Specialist provides home health coding support to selected agencies. Reviews OASIS and assigns accurate codes that are supported by documentation.
This full-time position's day schedule may fluctuate day/evening with some weekend/holiday coverage required to meet client contractual requirements
This position requires the ability to make independent decisions regarding accurate ICD-10-CM code assignments. The coding decision will play a key role in determining the reimbursement potential home care agencies and adherence to coding compliance regulations and Fazzi policies developed to ensure accurate billing.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
·Identify, review, interpret code and abstract clinical information from home health OASIS and assign correct ICD-10 codes.
· Identify viable primary diagnosis and procedure as well as pertinent secondary diagnosis and procedures.
· Follow sequencing and reporting procedures mandated by government and other payers for completion of coded data.
· Provide clinical and administrative data for billing and provide clerical support related to coding functions.
· Extract data regarding diagnosis, procedures, and identify the correct ordering for accurate reporting.
· Minimum productivity standard of 15-18 records/day-75/week with a 90% or better accuracy on audit.
· Demonstrate tested quality and integrity skills
· Ability to learn new software and technologies
· 90% accuracy rate once established as an independent coder
· Other duties may be assigned from time to time
REQUIREMENTS:
· Required: Certification of Home Health Coder BCHH-C or HCS-D certification. Minimum 2-year degree in related field. 4 year degree preferred. Background in medicine, science pharmacology helpful
· English is required for both verbal and written communication.
· Thorough knowledge of the related prospective payment system (PPS).
· Broad knowledge of pharmacology indications for drug usage and related adverse reactions.
· Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and medical terminology.
· Understanding of coding practices and official guidelines.
· Proficiency with computer use including Microsoft Office applications, and encoding systems.
